It's all about the Eyes...

Gay-B-Gone

Hilarious video found on youtube.com "Got a gay in the family? Wash those sins away with our special suds!". And please don't come back that this is homophobic, I think it's funny. Just like when every fag and lez (oh yes I did!) had a fit when Eminem was singing "anti-gay" lyrics and wanted to boycott his music. I didn't really take it all that seriously, I mean it's just music and I don't think it promotes anything. I think you feel bad about your sexuality if YOU feel bad about it. Getting called a fag or having someone say I'm abmonination and God doesn't love me is not going to change the love and self respect I have for myself. If anything this "commercial" makes the straight guy look like a simple minded oaf, and we'll leave it that.

I might have to dress up as a cowboy...

...IF I get this server position at the Desperado (no really, that's the name). So I drove up to Hill City Saturday afternoon and the Black Hills were gorgeous! It was a sunny day and there was still snow on the ground but melting rapidly as we warmed up to a nice 40 degrees. As I pulled into Hill City, I'm thinking of Old Towne Folsom (CA), total tourist trap but definitely has character and somewhat, old style, charm. I met the owners of the restuarant amidst the construction and remodeling going on. They were nice and we had a great chat for like an hour. I think I might get it! The only thing is that if so, they want to keep the Western "theme" and I have to wear boots, jeans and either a white button shirt or a western print shirt. Ok you know I'm going to rock this look! I think it would be really painful to be on your feet all day in cowboy boots (Ok, I know, Ranchers do it all the time)but still. So I can wear other styles of boot, they just have to be boots, jeans and I'm thinking of a western shirt in royal blue (I look good in royal blue) with silver snaps! Possibley a huge silver belt buckle also. Really, I mean if you're gonna do it, do it right! So since I'm Lakota the owners really liked that also and are planning on serving some Native dishes (which coincidentally I also know how to make). I think that works in my favor and I'm just glad they didn't ask me to serve in a breechcloth though, let's try to keep the reality aspect to a minimum okkay?! All in all it was a good interview and I'm hoping I get it. I really can not imagine being here until July (projected move back to California date). If possible I'd like to move back sooner than that. Granted I'll be working 7 days a week but that's a good thing since I don't know what do with myself as it is, being out of school for the semester. In retrospect, had I KNOWN it was going to be a July moving date, I would have never busted my ass to finish my online classes in Mid March!! ugh!
We'll see...

TGIF

...been a long week and this project I'm working on at work is taking me longer than I anticipated. So tomorrow I'm driving to Hill City up in the Black Hills to apply as a waiter as this new restaurant that is going to open up Mid-April. They're going to be serving Cowboy Cuisine, um..no I don't know what that means. It's about a 30 min drive out of town and it's through the hills so I don't think it'll be to bad. Of course this means I'll be working 7 days a week, but it's not like I'm doing anything else, especially since I'm out of school now. Hhmm...cowboy cuisine? I'm really curious as to what the menu is going to be like. More importantly will the cowboys look like the new look of Dsquared??

Iconoclast

Today I am home resting in preparation for a recital in PA. I just finished watching a show called Iconoclasts where Robert Redford and Paul Newman visit and talk for about 45 minutes about what it means to be "them". I am inspired by the humble spirit presented there. They are nearing the end of their journey on this world, and they seem to have learned what it was and is all about. Discussion returns constantly to doing something, making a difference in the world and their world. Both have turned success in one vein into opportunities to grow and succeed in other veins. Seems like a model I would aspire to follow.

A few themes jumped out at me..
1. The need for balance in life between work, play, identity, purpose...
2. Devotion to something other than themselves, without sacrificing themselves...
3. Acceptance of what the world thinks about them, but not allowing the world to define them or their actions...
4. Realization that they are blessed.. no way to explain why... and the understanding that others have far more of a contribution to the "world" . The others just lack exposure.
5. Understanding that nothing comes without hard work and discipline. Both are free spirits, who then use structure and governance to channel their success
6. They don't dwell on their failures...

Definition of Iconoclast...
---One who attacks and seeks to overthrow traditional or popular ideas or institutions.
---One who destroys sacred religious images.

Word History: An iconoclast can be unpleasant company, but at least the modern iconoclast only attacks such things as ideas and institutions. The original iconoclasts destroyed countless works of art. Eikonoklasts, the ancestor of our word, was first formed in Medieval Greek from the elements eikn, “image, likeness,” and -klasts, “breaker,” from kln, “to break.” The images referred to by the word are religious images, which were the subject of controversy among Christians of the Byzantine Empire in the 8th and 9th centuries, when iconoclasm was at its height. In addition to destroying many sculptures and paintings, those opposed to images attempted to have them barred from display and veneration. During the Protestant Reformation images in churches were again felt to be idolatrous and were once more banned and destroyed. It is around this time that iconoclast, the descendant of the Greek word, is first recorded in English (1641), with reference to the Byzantine iconoclasts. In the 19th century iconoclast took on the secular sense that it has today, as in “Kant was the great iconoclast” (James Martineau).

What do I do now?

Well I'm done with school (for this semester) and basically all that studying time is now free time. I'm lost, there are no Olympics on, I have no cable and no more long hours here at the office figuring out how to do math problems while being timed online. I don't have any hobbies, no computer at home (thank goodness!). So I'm like in limbo right now. There are some books I want to read, but if I read then I just get to involved and stay up all night to finish the book. I need to learn how to put a good book down. The last book I read I finished at 3 in the morning. I put it down and went to bed, then snapped back on the light and just went at it. I had to KNOW what happened to these characters! I guess I could head back to the gym, but I really only like working out at night (I'm a night owl) but then it's even harder to fall asleep. Maybe I should try yoga? Yoga is good for your core and peace of mind. I dunno...gotta think of something...I can only watch so much tv!

Video Games and Wake up Calls.

...I'm not really into video games, I dunno why, they just bore me. Maybe it's because I suck at 'em? Esepcially the ones where you have to think about where would the Head Vampire be hanging out if I was a dragon who changed into a ground hog every time my life was in danger. I like the racing games though, anything where I can compete angainst somebody else and I'm there! In any case check out this game called Rong it's like Pong but only in a circle. It's addictive, my high score is 114 BUT I've only had a chance to play it twice, I'm hoping to improve on that!

Also this is a cool website where you can (for free) schedule a wake up call with a guitar solo, or poetry etc. Just enter your phone number and the time. Great way to also submit your work if your an artist or poet etc.

Gavin Newsom's Divorce is Final!

It's official!! For those of you who don't know. Gavin Newsom is the Mayor of San Francisco. "Newsom gained international attention, and attracted controversy, in February 2004 when he issued a directive for the city-county to start performing same-sex marriages. Newsom claimed the California Constitution's equal protection clause as his authority to do so. About 4,000 same-sex couples were subsequently married in San Francisco until the weddings were stopped by the California Supreme Court on March 11. Some prominent Democrats such as Senator (and former San Francisco mayor) Dianne Feinstein and Representative Barney Frank argued that Newsom's actions doomed the party's Presidential nominee, John Kerry. No evidence has ever been put forward to support such claims."
He's sexy, he's bright, and he's progressive. Time for me to move my ass back home!!

A HOAX! High School Studen was NOT expelled after all...

...via the Oregonian. "West Linn High School student Brandon Flyte told the world on his Web site that he was expelled for leaving a homosexual "snuggle scene" in a class film project.
It wasn't true, and now the teen is in real trouble with school officials because of the resulting turmoil surrounding his claim."
"He has disrupted the school. This is clearly a behavior we don't find acceptable," said West Linn-Wilsonville Superintendent Roger Woehl. Rest of Story here.
You can read Brandon's response over at Towleroad.

Hmm...I'm not sure why a student, much less a straight student, would do something like this but it definitly call attention to homophobia and strict policies regarding sexual orientation in our public school system.

High School Student Expelled for His Video "Brokeback High"

"Brandon Flyte, a high school student, was expelled after showing his class his "Brokeback Mountain" tribute, "Brokeback High".
This is just wrong and hypocritical, the schools website has an anti-discrimination policy for pretty much everything, but I don't see anything about sexual orientation, funny that. Here's the fully story plus a link to the students website, via gayer mechanic wales.

Transparency

For months now, I have been using this word... I intend it to mean that my team has to be completely open and honest with our customers business in order to build the trust necessary to bridge our coming workload without self destructing. We are beginning to reap the rewards as our customers now believe us, trust us, and want to work with us, even when I have to deliver bad news.

On the family and church fronts.. I don't very many people that I am really transparent with...Even fewer that I believe are tranparent with me. Somehow, somewhere, we all learned to put up these facades so that all appears well, even if it is not. I read an email devotional from John Fischer that was profound...below is an excerpt..

" How much of being a Christian and going to church is all about appearances? Too much, at least in my experience. Too many of us act as if it were our responsibility to make God look good by showing ourselves as shiny happy people. In the end, we make God look bad, because we are dishonest in the worst sort of way; we are dishonest with ourselves. Do this long enough and you lose track of who you really are. I find that a lot of Christians get so far removed from who they are that they need professional counseling to help them face the truth about themselves. Most of this comes from getting good at living an impression rather than living the truth. We are too good for our own good. "
John Fischer: Purpose Driven Life Daily Devotional 3/10/06

I wish I had some levers to pull to fix this worldly truth. The weight and burden of the appearance driven world is oppressive.

A simple truth which I try to use as a guidepost to my days.

People don't do things without a reason. Most of the time, I don't know the reason, even when I think I do. If I assume that everyone is trying to help, I seem to do better than if I assume negative intentions. Both approaches are painful because of the amount of error, but by granting sincerity to my fellow man, I lay the groundwork for building relationships and improving life. If I assume intentional harm....we can only go to war.. and in war.. Both sides lose more than anyone gains.

You crazy Galatians! Did someone put a hex on you? Have you taken leave of your senses? Something crazy has happened, for it's obvious that you no longer have the crucified Jesus in clear focus in your lives. His sacrifice on the Cross was certainly set before you clearly enough.
Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God's Message to you? Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren't smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? Did you go through this whole painful learning process for nothing? It is not yet a total loss, but it certainly will be if you keep this up!

Free Stuff...

...now this is a good idea.
"I was sitting around one day, skimming through a pile of bills that I needed to pay. I looked over at a new, unopened roll of stamps that I had sitting in front of me, and I thought to myself, "$39... for a roll of stamps? Geez... You can't get much for $39 nowadays. Or can you...?"

Assignment Encouragement

Sunday, I received a SS homework assigment: Write 3-4 sentences of encouragement in email.. using a favorite scripture verse.

God is in control of my world. I spend my days preserving the illusion that I control actions and results around me. In spite of my arrogance, my God loves me and maintains his plans to prosper me. I love the Lord.. that is what it is all about.

3 verses came immediately to mind supporting my writing:

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

RuPaul still doing it...

...will she ever do anything as good as Supermodel?? Watch her new video here.

A furry lobster??

I like Fall out Boy, not as much as The Killers but after seeing Pete Wentz fall out...I'm sure a lot more people will become more intrigued.

Random memory of the day...

I remember when I graduated high school my friend had a graduation party that weekend. It was a great time, saying goodbye to people and meeting new people from the other highschool in town. I didn't drink at the time but I ended up crashing on the floor with everyone else and I kind of slept in a weird position. I would sleep on my back with one ankle crossed over and my arms crossed across my chess. Yes, kind of like a vampire in his coffin. I remember waking up and using the bathroom and then getting back in "position" to go back to sleep and my two friends walked in the living room and were talking about how weird I slept and one of them said "he sleeps like a vampire". So to freak them out I snapped open my eyes and raised to a sitting position with my arms still crossed! LOL...they were a lil bit freaked. Not sure why I was thinking of that on the way to work this morning...

Let's have Twins Day!

Before I head out of the office and go home and bake a chicken...I forgot to post some pics. IN trying to be original (and how many blogs really are, there are a few) I have been asked what am I going to call my "men" of the day? Over at Bent the hotties are called Slaps of the Day, check it out, it's a great story on how that came about! Over at Kenneth in the 212, he has The Morning Wood (how clever is that?! *chuckle*), so when I said, well...I'll just call them Eye Candy or something...I was met with a big Nooooo...! So I called Angela (a.ka. best friend...lovvvaa forevvaaa, my other half) and asked her and rather quickly she came up with Today's Weather. Um ok, I thought a sec and was like ooohhh I get it! Like I could post hot guys and cool guys and...um...I dunno...I'll figure it out, in any case with that little story being known...on to the very Warm Fronts!! LOL (corny, but kinda like it!)
peace out!

Of course we have to have the Carlson Twins!

and the Hall Twins, Bruce and Seth... :-)

Happy Tuesday!

More SD abortion news...

...I especially like the last paragraph :
Susan Hill, who runs the only remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi, also said there had been an upsurge of support because of the bans.
"Every move that's this alarming has it a price to pay for it," she said. "There's a president with low polls, people upset with the Republicans — this might not be the perfect time to start the abortion battle, with the right wing not at the top of its game."! Rest of the Story Via Ap

Probably the best quote I've heard so far regarding Iraq.

The Iraqi women plan to deliver a petition to the White House on Wednesday. Earlier they held a news conference at U.N. headquarters calling for the United States to withdraw its forces.
Entisar Mohammad Ariabi, a pharmacist at Baghdad's Yarmook Teaching Hospital, wept as she told reporters of the hardships experienced by Iraqi women.
"U.S. occupation has destroyed our country, made it into a prison," she said. "Schools are bombed, hospitals are bombed."
"We thank you, Mr. Bush, for liberating our country from Saddam. But now, go out! Please go out!" she said.

S.Dakota Bans ALL Abortions

Soooo...what I'm hearing is that even if your dad rapes you at 14 years of age, you have to carry that child to full term and then give birth to it. That's what I'm reading? How backwards is this state? And the gall to take the decision out of a womans hand. So if you're leaving your weekly Bible reading on a Wednesday night and a transient from New York (because by all means, SD has NO transients) attacks and rapes you, well church lady, you voted for it...you're carrying that bastard child to full term, hopefully as he runs off...you can catch his name...ya know, in case you want to name your kid after his dad.
This so absurd and so incredibly...???? I can't even think of a word. Anways via AP here is the story, I'm so ready to move back to Cali...

S.D. Governor Signs Abortion Ban Into Law
By CHET BROKAW, Associated Press Writer
Gov. Mike Rounds signed legislation Monday banning nearly all abortions in South Dakota, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman's life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest.
Planned Parenthood, which operates the state's only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure in court.
Rounds issued a written statement saying he expects the law will be tied up in court for years and will not take effect unless the U.S. Supreme Court upholds it.
"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them," Rounds said in the statement.
The governor declined all media requests for interviews Monday. (of course he did)
The Legislature passed the bill last month after supporters argued that the recent appointment of conservative justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito have made the U.S. Supreme Court more likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.
South Dakota's abortion ban is to take effect July 1, but a federal judge is likely to suspend it during a legal challenge.
Rounds has said abortion opponents already are offering money to help the state pay legal bills for the anticipated court challenge. Lawmakers said an anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to defend the ban, and the Legislature set up a special account to accept donations for legal fees.
Under the new law, doctors could get up to five years in prison for performing an illegal abortion.
Rounds previously issued a technical veto of a similar bill passed two years ago because it would have wiped out all existing restrictions on abortion while the bill was tied up for years in a court challenge.
The statement he issued Monday noted that this year's bill was written to make sure existing restrictions will be enforced during the legal battle. Current state law sets increasingly stringent restrictions on abortions as pregnancy progresses. After the 24th week, the procedure is allowed only to protect the woman's health and safety.
About 800 abortions are performed each year in South Dakota. Planned Parenthood has said other women cross state lines to reach clinics.

The Oscars

Well BBM didn't win Best Picture, and while that is disappointing, it did win for best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and of course, Best Director Ang Lee. Was the film hyped up way to much to attract an audience? Maybe. All in all it was a good night for the Oscars and Jon Stewart was mildly entertaining but what the hell was up with Three 6 Mafia winning an Oscar?? That was absolutely insane!! Ok at least when Eminem won his Oscar, that song was moving, it was inspirational and made you want to get up and do something with your life. I'm sorry but I found none of the lyrics inspirational in the Pimp song. As far as beat or rap/flow...it didn't even have that for appeal. There are like 5 Beyonce songs out RIGHT NOW that have a better beat, better flow and better lyrics. And I don't even like Beyonce!! I just didn't understand it, what message was the Academy trying to convey??? I feel so bad for Dolly, how embarassing to lose to a bunch of thugs who spoke ebonics while on the stage for the Oscars!! It's a damn shame.
Now I'm sure the press is going to promote homophobia for Brokeback Mountain not winning, but from what I've heard Crash is a very good film, but I haven't seen it so I don't know. I don't think it's homophobia, I'd like to think the Academy voted for the best picture...if I could just get over that whole Oscar song thing going to the that group, who sings about how hard it is for a pimp. I mean really, how hard could it be for a pimp?? You get to wear the big Fedora's, you don't have to do anything for your 90% cut from the ho you just sent out, you get to drive a caddy, you get to have 6 kids by 6 different women and not take responsibility for any of them. BUT YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT DESERVER AN OSCAR!!!...no mater how hard it is for a pimp out there!!
