Bedbugs Bite
Holy cow, what is going on with all the bedbug infestations I've been hearing about? It seems they are all over New York right now. They have temporarily closed down the Google offices, Niketown on 5th Avenue and even the Empire State Building. It made me wonder...
What the hell is a bedbug? Other than the old saying "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite" I had never really heard of them. I found these interesting facts...
*A bedbug pierces the skin of its host with two hollow feeding tubes. With one tube it injects its saliva, with the other it withdraws blood from its host.
*After feeding for about five minutes, the bug returns to its hiding place.
*They can live for up to a year without feeding, but they normally try to feed every five to ten days.
*DNA from human blood meals from bed bugs can be recovered for up to 90 days, which may allow bed bugs to be used for forensic purposes for identifying who the bed bugs have been feeding on.
*All bedbugs mate when the male pierces the females abdomen with his hypodermic genitalia and ejaculates into her body cavity. Especially desperate males sometimes mistake other males for females and occasionally fatally wound the latter in the abdomen.
*It's can be difficult to tell bedbug bites from other insect bites. In general, the sites of bedbug bites are usually are...
Red, often with a darker red spot in the middle, Itchy, Arranged in a rough line or in a cluster & Located on the face, neck, arms and hands.
Anyway,
Good night, sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite!
