Good Morning

I am awake having had my coffee. I'll be doing a little more weeding this morning. I read a little bit of the science fiction romance paperback, Shades of Dark, by Linnea Sinclair. Oo, sexy telepath take me away.

I think it is about how to improve traffic and blog posts for your blog.

In a few minutes, I should start doing some more weeding. I just ordered a few more business books. My day is starting with a bang.

I took a few minutes to look at Locus Magazine, what is new in paperback and reserved Mike Resnick, Stalking the Unicorn. It is a fantasy detective novel set in an alternate Manhattan. I rather liked Mike Resnick's book Kirinyaga.

I spent some more time weeding social science books this afternoon. Also, a whole lot of new social science books came in.

I read a bit more of Impact by Ken McArthur. I am on page 57. I just did an exercise where I wrote down 100 of my current dreams and then crossed out the ones which did not match with my current goals. This took quite a bit of time to do. I also logged into the website attached to the book and filled out a survey. With the exercises and survey, it took a bit of time to do. It will take at least a week or two to finish reading this book if I do all the exercises.

Good Morning

Sometimes the most surprising things crop up during presidential elections. I thought this article on whether or not Sarah Palil asked to censor books and fired the Wasilla, Alaska city librarian was kind of interesting. This election is turning out to be full of things which are unexpected. Sometimes, I wish it would just go away. Censorship is always a tough issue.

Last night on the train, I finished reading Groundswell, Winning In A World Transformed by Social Technologies. I will be writing a review of it in a while.

I just started reading Impact, How To Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, And Make A Difference In a Noisy World by Ken McArthur. The book reads like a business guru type book. It reminds me a little bit of Napoleon Hill, however, there is a big difference. Each chapter includes goal setting exercises, self motivation exercises, and direct actions which you can take to make it more likely you will achieve your goals. This is what separates this book so far from most of the other business guru books I have read.

On a side note that has nothing to do with reading, I found an entertaining game beta. It is called Good Old Games. They are selling all the old classics upgraded so they will run on modern pcs.
They should be sending out keys on September 8, 2008. I signed up yesterday.

Good Afternoon

There is a real sense of quiet on this blog without Entrecard. I realize that most of my vaunted traffic was ephemeral much like dandelion seeds blowing in the wind. But, there is also a sense of peace. Now, I can start building my traffic up focusing on people who are interested in books.

Speaking of blog traffic, Darren Rowse of Problogger has a book, Problogger, Secrets For Blogging Your Way To A Six Figure Income by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett. It is a relatively short book 220 pages. I have it sitting here next to me.

I also have a little more time to get things done, I wrote two rough drafts for film flyers.

On the train home tonight, I read Problogger Secrets For Blogging Your Way to a Six Figure Income by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett. It is one of the books which I ordered for the library. It was a book that was short and fairly easy to read. It is only 229 pages long.

I am trying out a new advertising card exchange, SPOTT, it looks a lot simpler than Entrecard.

Twitter is the near perfect medium for impromptu haiku. I have written two of them as part of my messages so far. I'll probably write more. It is very easy to integrate them into messages.

More Business Ordering

I went through and ordered more business books. An awful lot of the books are motivational hype in the business management area. I wish there were more how to run things books; how to write email, run an office, manage a team, and similar things. There is a little voice that seems to come from the books which says do more no matter what. I wish people would focus a little more on working smart.

After looking at hundreds of business management books, I found a hyped out title that seemed right on target. The cover was even bright canary yellow. Impact How To Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference In a Noisy World by Ken MacArthur. This is a really well done title, it reaches out and grabs your attention immediately.

Random Thoughts

I am going to stop ordering for the next couple days. My next set of ordering is Social Science books. I think it should be a bit more interesting for me because it includes a lot of very interesting trends like globalization, environmental issues, green issues, investing, and economics.

I did some switching out of the law books. I brought up some new McKinneys New York Annotated and United States Code Annotated. I have some looseleaf material to file as well.

One new book came in for me to read Green: Your Place In The New Energy Revolution by Jane S. Hoffman. I hope it is an entertaining read.

I am about halfway through reading The Long Tail by Chris Anderson.
