Daily Thoughts 11/3/2010
Today has been a quiet steady day. I went through some gift books this morning and checked the patron requests list. I also confirmed appointments for SCORE counselors to America's small business for tomorrow.
We held a standing order meeting to determine what we might keep or not in the afternoon.
There was also a short meeting with the director announcing that the city planned on cutting the libraries budget by 16%, this included six people that they offered retirement packages at our library. If the people did not take the retirement packages, those directly below them would be bumped downward in a reduction in force. This happened before in July of 2011. At the same time, the library is interviewing for an assistant director position. The 16% represents some $600,000. The library is currently $400,000 in debt or 10% of its current budget. This represents $1,000,000 in debt at the beginning of the year come January 1, 2011. The budget is still being negotiated.
