Barbie Dreams and Wiggle Magic

Every Christmas Mom allowed us to pick one present under the tree to unwrap. The year I turned eight, I just knew the super-sized gift with my name on it just had to be the Barbie DreamHouse I'd begged and begged for. With great excitement, I rushed to rip the paper off. But Mom wouldn't let me pick that one, and instead, forced on me one of the smallest gifts under the tree.

Yeah, that sucked. Wasn’t even a toy! Just a dumb old book. Oh, what a disappointment. I wanted to whip the stupid thing across the room. Gee, thanks Mom! is what I thought. "Thanks, Mom," is what I actually said.

Then I started to read. And I read, and I read more. I kept reading all through the night until I got so tired I couldn't see. I just couldn't stop reading. What a fun book! What a very cool story! Mrs. Piggle Wiggle definitely ruled. All the crazy remedies she had for naughty children cracked me up. The kid who didn't clean up his toys had to stay in his room with his mess, until they couldn’t get the door open and food had to be delivered up the ladder. A picky eater ended up with smaller and smaller spoons. Her house was upside down and added to that, she had a magic hump!

There are a bunch of books in the series—but most definitely, Miss Piggle Wiggle was my very first favorite book. By the way, the elevator on Barbie's Dream House was so poorly designed, it stopped working the same day. Go figure!

Warmly,
J.R. Turner
