Boogerman: A Pick And Flick Adventure

This game is the strangest game I've ever played on the Sega Mega Drive. Luckily it's strange in a good way. It's kind of a mindfuck game. The game is a platformer with cartoony style graphics, but with this game they fit extremely well. The game was created by Interplay in 1994 and was also released for the SNES in 1995. I don't know what they were smoking when they came up with this game, but it's weird to say the least.

Intro(as taken from the game):
It's a dark and stormy night at professor Stinkbaum's lab where a machine has been built to save the world from pollution by transexisting it to dimension X Crement. Eccentric millionaire Snotty Racsdale has taken a job at the lab to investigate it's safety and find out exactly where the pollution is going. He has a bad feeling about this latest contraption. This night his suspicions will come true.

The levels are all fun to play. The environment is also very strange. In the first world, for example the trees have faces. Sometimes there is a nose attached to them which functions as a teleport. There are six worlds which exist out of two, three or four levels and a boss. In these levels you'll also find bonus levels by flushing yourself in a toilet. Just like in almost all other platformers(except Alex Kidd) you can jump on your enemies in order to kill them. Besides this attack, you also have some strange weapons at your disposal, such as a fart or a burp. You can also throw snot at your enemies, which kills them. Talking about the enemies, these are strange as well. There are normal enemies like snails and ghosts (which consist of ashes, which is another pollution message) but the rest of them.. I don't know what they are. Your standard enemies look like goblins, but when you kill them, they make a farting noise. So they could be called animate poop or something.

Instead of collecting coins like in other platformers, in this game you collect plungers. With these plungers Snotty tries to make a ladder at the end of each level. When you've acquired enough plungers you'll get an extra life. You'll get some extra points when you crush every wart you can find. There are also some powerups you can collect such as milk, red peppers, beans and a certain green substance (and it isn't weed, mind you). With milk your snot throwing gets replaced by spitting, a stronger attack. When you consume red peppers your burping and farting ignite and you can fly like a rocket (a flame is coming out of Boogerman's ass) until your gas runs out. And that's when the beans come in handy. They'll refill your gas and snot supplies. Boogerman has three stages of health which you can see by looking at the colour of his cape. With a blinking cape you can take three hits before dying. In this process your cape will degrade from blinking to red to yellow and then you'll die (Boogerman melts). You can regain health when you collect capes.

The entire time I was playing this game I had a great time. This game is hilarious, the funny enemies, the strange surroundings and the lunatic music will ensure a fun experience. The game isn't too difficult, but is challenging at times. I'd really recommend checking this game out, even though it might be hard to find a copy. In case you don't find it, you could choose to get it on the Virtual Console, even though there is also a difference between the original copy and the downloadable one.
